FACELIFT of MINILIFT
What is a facelift?
A facelift can reverse the inevitable ageing process of the face for a while, making you feel young and radiant again. However, it cannot stop the ageing process permanently.
A facelift involves lifting the skin on the face and the underlying muscle and fat tissue to bring back the original shape of the face and often the neck.
Wrinkles and folds are removed; lines such as smile lines, which are part of your facial expression, are left intact, so that you do retain your individuality and natural expression afterwards.
When will you benefit from a facelift?
The face is one of our body parts that is constantly exposed to weather conditions, poor air quality and sometimes even harmful fumes. Under the influence of the sun and gravity but also due to our age, excessive smoking or a lot of stress, the face can suffer a lot and lose its radiant, youthful elasticity. The skin may then sag, the jawline may sag a little and the crease between nose and upper lip may deepen.
Even if you do not smoke or drink and do not suffer from stress, your skin and muscle tissue can lose its elasticity and droop with age. Heredity and predisposition also play a role in this. If you want to reverse this ageing process for a while, a facelift may be a good solution. A facelift also involves removing excess fatty tissue. A facelift ensures that hamster cheeks, wrinkles and folds disappear and you regain a younger appearance.
At an informative consultation, you can fire all your questions at Dr Lemmens.
He will discuss with you the best approach for the facelift and ensure that while you will look younger, you will still retain your personal looks and appearance, so that you become a refreshed version of yourself rather than being able to talk about ‘a new me’. We also discuss in advance what the facelift will focus on.
In a classic facelift, your plastic surgeon makes an incision starting at the front of the ear to the back of the ear. The skin is then stretched and the subcutaneous muscle and fat tissues are corrected. The resulting excess skin is removed.
After the procedure, a bandage is applied and swelling and bruising are minimised by applying tubes. After 14 hours, these tubes and the dressing are removed.
The face may remain swollen for up to several weeks after the procedure but this is temporary. The final result of a facelift is only visible after about two to three months.
You might be bothered by the swelling and tingling. This is because the body itself tries to remove unnecessary fluid after the procedure. Lymphatic drainage can speed up this process.
A facelift does not stop skin ageing but the results are lifelong. Even after decades, you will still look better than you would have looked without a facelift.
