LIPOFILLING
What is lipofilling?
Lipofilling involves taking natural fat tissue to a new location and securing it, then making it an integrated and body-specific part of that tissue. Lipofilling is a safe way to transfer fat to another place where the body could use some more filling, and because no artificial tissues are used, the results are often very good.
The advantages of lipofilling are that body’s own fat tissue ensures minimum complications compared to artificial fillers and the skin of the treated area also becomes stronger and more elastic afterwards. A disadvantage is that body’s own fat is also often drained naturally. Fortunately, lipofilling techniques have since evolved to the point where plastic surgeons can fix more than half of the fat, achieving perfect filler after about three treatments.
When will you benefit from lipofilling?
Lipofilling is often used as a surgical procedure for both aesthetic and reconstructive reasons. With age, certain parts of the face may start to sag. Then you may benefit from lipofilling to start supporting those areas by filling them with the body’s own fatty tissue. The technique is used, among other things, to reshape a flat or sunken chin or virtually invisible cheekbones.
During an initial consultation, everything related to the treatment is thoroughly discussed. Dr Lemmens gives you honest and clear advice and extensive information about the various methods, the expected results, the possible risks and aftercare. He will also check whether you definitely qualify for the treatment and will ask you about your wishes and expectations.
Together, we will then decide which treatment method will be applied or, if desired, a combination of treatments. All these agreements are laid down in a treatment agreement.
To harvest surplus fat from the patient’s own body, a type of small-scale liposculpture is used in which only about 10% fat is removed compared to regular liposculpture. This takes about half an hour and the patient hardly experiences any discomfort.
The extracted fat is processed so that it can be easily reinserted. This can take up to 20 minutes or so.
The fat is then inserted in the desired areas with a blunt needle or cannula and spread evenly so that it comes into contact with sufficient oxygen.
Alle onderdelen van deze ingreep gebeuren onder plaatselijke verdoving.
Depending on how the fat tissue was inserted, there will be more or less swelling in the filled body areas. Usually, this is almost completely gone after about three days.
Some of the inserted fat tissue will not be sufficiently exposed to oxygen, causing it to die. As a result, there is often a reduction of about 25% of the total amount of fatty tissue inserted. This is taken into account by specialists by inserting slightly too much fat. This is therefore one of the reasons why the result is only visible after several weeks.
