LIPOSCULPTURE
What is liposculpture?
Liposculpture is a procedure that allows to remove localised fat deposits in regions where patients have difficulty losing excess fat tissue through diet or physical activity. To this day, it is the most reliable way to remove localised fat tissue.
Liposculpture is a now perfected form of the former liposuction. Liposuction was done under anaesthesia and was traumatic to the tissues. Indeed, the aspiration cannulas were larger and caused more damage. With liposculpture, much less subcutaneous bleeding occurs and no severe bruising occurs. Less aftercare is needed and it is almost painless. The result is also much more beautiful. The treated skin will shrink slightly after liposculpture and become tighter. From ordinary liposuction, you sometimes still retain subcutaneous irregularities. This is much less the case with this new technique.
Current techniques allow corrections to most of the body surface. Certain forms of breast development in men (gynaecomastia) can also be treated this way. However, fat accumulation inside the abdominal cavity, as often occurs in middle-aged men, cannot be suctioned away.
When will you benefit from liposculpture?
If you suffer from sagging skin as a result of excessive weight loss in a short period of time or old age, or if you suffer from irregular fat accumulation in certain parts of the body, liposculpture can be a good solution, both for aesthetic reasons and when you are physically bothered by it.
The history of Liposculpture at Bellevue Clinics :
Liposculpture under local anaesthetic is , alongside eyelid surgery and laser treatments, the most frequently performed aesthetic treatment at Bellevue Clinics.
We have been performing this technique since 1998 and it has been perfected over the years. Important improvements where among others.
no more medication via intravenous route but only local anaesthesia ; as the procedure is not painful at all.
suctioning away is done with vibrational liposculpture, causing less trauma to the tissue with less pain and swelling.
Because of less traumatic treatment, the tights only need to be worn for 2 weeks ! And not 4 to 6 weeks as with classical techniques !
the combination of liposculpture with laser-assisted skin tightening.
Dr Lemmens patented his technique ( patent BE2007/0288 and patent BE2014/0256).
purchase of micro-canulas that are less traumatic to adipose tissue
Dr Lemmens will be responsible for all Liposculpture and Laser treatments at the Swiss Private Clinic ‘ Pyramide am See’ in Zurich ; part of ‘ The Best Swiss Hospitals’.
purchase latest YAG laser ( SP Dynamis by Fotona with 600-micrometre fibre diameter) to achieve even better skin tightening.
During a preliminary consultation, ample time will be taken to analyse which areas will produce the best results for you. Of course, other regions may also be treatable.
In liposculpture, fat tissue is aspirated away along several small 2-mm incisions. While maintaining body weight, fat deposits do not recur and the figure remains permanently altered.
One of the great advantages of liposculpture is that it can be performed under local anaesthesia. The principle is very simple: an incision of a few millimetres is made in the skin. A fluid (physiological saline solution and painkiller) is then introduced into the fatty tissue. Afterwards, the fat accumulation is gently suctioned out.
To obtain optimal results, Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), also known as vibra-sound liposculpture, is used at Dr Lemmens’ private clinic, possibly combined with an Nd-YAG laser. This technique allows for additional stimulation of the lower skin to contract after liposculpture and minimises skin sagging after the procedure.
Some areas of the body lend themselves more to liposculpture. Unlike the old techniques, some areas with this technique show results immediately after treatment ! Results are therefore more spectacular in certain areas of the body, e.g. the abdominal and stomach area, hips, outer thighs, inner thighs, knees and back of the arms. The procedure is almost painless. However, stiffness may occur in the treated areas for 1 week. After liposculpture, you will wear special tights for a fortnight ( and not 4 to 6 weeks as with the old techniques of liposuction) that cause the skin to contract. This provides a permanent massage and prevents the subcutaneous tissues from swelling. Bruising disappears after a few days but invisible yet palpable hardening sometimes requires a bit more time. However, this does not prevent daily activity from resuming the day after the procedure.
Often, the results of liposculpture are really worthwhile. The fact that the entire procedure can be performed for small areas under local anaesthetic does have the negative consequence that it is often also performed by less skilled people in a small practice.
We would therefore like to take a moment to point out the risks involved. Liposculpture is and remains a surgical procedure with potential complications, especially when treating large volumes. Therefore, follow-up by a specialised doctor is indispensable.
