SCRAPE LASER TREATMENT

What is a planing laser?

The planing laser, also known as an Erbium laser or cold laser, is a device that uses the laser beam to vaporize the upper layers of skin one by one without burning the deeper layers. The Erbium laser also stimulates collagen production, increases skin tension and tightens pores so that you get younger, softer and more supple skin. A scrape laser treatment is especially effective for removing wrinkles at the level of the upper lip, eyelid correction and smoothing the entire face.

When do you benefit from a planed laser treatment?

The ravages of time cause fine lines to appear around the eyes, folds around the mouth, cracks around the lips and cheeks and folds between the eyebrows. There are also a number of factors that can accelerate this skin aging process, such as a lot of sunlight, poor diet, too little sleep, active or passive smoking, air pollution and alcohol consumption.

In these cases, treatment with a planing laser can be a good solution. This technique has been developed fairly recently and is extremely suitable for treating such external age-related ailments.

Before the treatment, your skin type will be thoroughly analyzed and examined to see if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. Make sure that you do not withhold any important information about undergoing previous aesthetic procedures or the occurrence of side effects. Then the effective treatment will be planned with you, preferably outside the summer months because sunbathing before and after the treatment is out of the question.

You will receive sufficient information about the actual treatment and Dr. Lemmens will also inform you thoroughly about the preventive measures you need to take and the preparation you need to make for the treatment. For the effective laser treatment, photos are also often taken and a short trial treatment is planned to test the reaction of the laser on your skin.

The treatment is done under local anesthesia, unless it is a deeper treatment of the entire face. After thorough cleansing and disinfection of the face, the skin is removed layer by layer with the laser, until the desired result is achieved. Then the face is cleansed again and rubbed with a greasy cream to keep the skin hydrated.

After the anesthetic wears off, you may experience a slight burning sensation. Real pain is rare. You will be given information about the post-treatment and the right products prescribed. The first 24 hours the face is swollen and red and it is possible that the wounds bleed slightly, but that is normal. After a maximum of one week, the skin is completely healed and after two to four weeks all after-effects should be gone.

The Erbium laser is a powerful device. Depending on the depth of the treatment, it is possible that complications may occur after the treatment, although they are very rare. Scars may appear. These can be treated by Dr. Lemmens almost immediately to limit their visibility. You will therefore be regularly followed up by him after the treatment.

There is also an increased risk of cold sores in people who are sensitive to them. Six to eight weeks after the treatment, it is possible that dark or light pigmentation spots will appear. This is especially common in people with darker skin types. Again, this can be treated right away when it occurs.
